Didn't know that about Branford and the Grateful Dead will have to have a nosey for it.
You probably don't like hip hop I assume, but if you even just don't mind it, have a look for Jazzamatazz.
Pretty mellow.

I've always thought (ahem) that at the 1 min 37/8 secs stage it slightly comes undone for a second or two.
Or maybe it comes together?

What is Jazz...
Any style of music that includes improvisation and harkens to non classical motifs ...
that is my opinion...
...and if done well...I like it...

Love it .. in all its beautiful diversity ... BUT for all you guys that hate it ... here's the Bonzos "Jazz - Delicious Hot Disgusting Cold" summoning up all the classic stereotypes to remind you why you hate it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABcNAwytrOY - and I even like that!

I'm not sure I follow you fellow! I'm so out of the loop.
But I'm glad you mentioned Branford Marsalis - he did some great stuff with the Grateful Dead in the 1990s.
And the Dead are reforming (sort of - minus Jerry) and will have their final concert, 50th Anniversary - early July. It wil be on in cinemas all round the uk country. And quite rightly, I say. I'll be there.

Speaking Marsalis', Buckshot LeFonque was Branford Marsalis, and a decent fusion of jazz and hip hop.
Not a big fan of Jazz as a genre, but a massive fan of what I call Jazz Hop, so groups like Buckshot LeFonque, A Tribe Called Quest, Digible Planets, De La Soul, US3 and laterly Ugly Duckling and J5 have been jazz influenced and you can hear it in their music.
Been trying to remember the name of a couple of compilations that I had a few years ago, something like Jazzamatazz or similar, which were awesome (and patchy in places) to just have on in the background on a sunny summers day, sitting out on the deck enjoying a beer.

Don't know if it "counts as Jazz", whatever it is, it is brilliant.

Wynton Marsalis and his (big) band have done some really interesting things with Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, and to a lesser extent, Bob Dylan. If winning a Pultizer Prize for Music means anything, well then he won that.
I think it swings and grooves in all the right places and reaches some lesser known places and suggests a slightly different sense of time - if you find yourself open minded and with time on your hands then maybe you'll be agreeably enabled by a play with time and space and timbre and rhythm and volume and, well, music.

Depends on the type. Grew up with a dad who was a jazz lover and still love the big band stuff he used to listen to

Joel McHale is American. He's a work of art. I feel I ought to write and thank his parents. At the very least, give them a round of applause.

Jazz is thwe only art form to come out of America. In fact its about the only thing to come out of America of any real worth. I like blues and tock snd roll but they are just extensions of folk music where as Jazz is high art.

Only really ever listened to Miles Davis, as I figured if you listen to the best you don't have to wade through all the shite.
Frankly, that's the only genre of music I have done that with as some of the stuff I have heard accidently has made me want to tear my ears off.

If it is not your thing then fine, don't worry. You're lucky you got a lot to potentially discover on your musical journey. I envy you.
As the man said "Good music is good no matter what kind of music it is."
